What to know before you start
Artificial turf depends on the base
A good turf installation is mostly what happens before the turf goes down: removing the old lawn, laying and compacting the base, and setting the grade so water drains. That is what keeps it flat and prevents puddles.
Natural grass done right
For natural lawns, soil preparation and the right grade matter as much as the sod. We prepare the ground so the lawn takes root and drains well.
Lawn replacement and water programs
Some Bay Area water agencies have offered rebates for replacing lawn with water-wise landscaping. Programs change, so check with your water provider before you start.

Questions we hear
Is artificial turf good for pets and kids?
It can be, and many families choose it for that reason. Ask us about the options and the infill that suits your household.
Does artificial turf need drainage?
Yes. A permeable base and the right slope let water drain through and away, which is a large part of why the base preparation matters.
Can you do part synthetic and part natural?
Yes. Many yards combine turf areas with planting beds, pavers or natural lawn.
